Sotheby’s saw exceptional results for several medals in its focused July 26 auction titled Buzz Aldrin: American Icon in New York City, including $226,800 for Aldrin’s New Frontier congressional gold medal. The lots were from the personal collection of Edwin E. “Buzz” Aldrin Jr., perhaps best-known for his role as Apollo 11 Lunar Module pilot.

A silver medallic coin being offered in Dec. 5 auction recalls the ongoing threat of piracy to the Venetian economy. The silver osella (which weighs 9.77 grams and was equal to 78 soldi) depicts a Venetian warship on the obverse, cannon firing at a vessel flying the Turkish flag.
