Precious metals futures posted narrow changes Tuesday. Gold moved the least, slipping less than 0.1%.

Gold for August delivery edged down a dime to end at $1,225.60 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.

“Some mild short covering by the shorter-term futures traders is featured in both [gold and silver] markets today, to limit the downside,” Jim Wyckoff, a senior analyst at Kitco Metals Inc., said in a report. “Still, the lack of major market news events in the world at present is allowing the chart-based traders to dominate — and the technicals for both gold and silver remain firmly bearish.”

Gold futures traded from a low of $1,218.10 to a high of $1,228.40. They declined 0.5% on Monday.
