The India Government Mint, Mumbai, has opened bookings for the ₹100 commemorative coin issued to mark the Birth Centenary of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. The bookings began today, October 11, 2025, and are available in limited quantities.
Earlier, on September 13, 2025, the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, released the commemorative coin, at the Veterinary College Playground in Khanapara, Guwahati. The event was graced by the Chief Minister of Assam, Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma; the Governor of Assam, Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya and other dignitaries.
The ₹100 coin is currently available in the Proof Set, packaged either with a Folder/Blister or in an MDF/Wooden Box.
The ₹100 coin in Folder/Blister Proof Set is priced at ₹8,818, while the MDF Box Proof Set is priced at ₹9,391. Additionally, the UNC Set in a Folder or Blister pack may be issued at a later date.
The pricing reflects the coin’s high specifications—it is struck in 99.9% pure silver, weighs 40 grams, measures 44 mm in diameter, and carries 200 serrations along the edge. These features, combined with limited availability and the rising costs of silver and minting, contribute to its relatively higher price for collectors.
These coin sets can be purchased either at the mint premises or through the official website of the India Government Mint, with updates available in the current and upcoming bookings section.
