The Hon’ble Union Minister of Power, Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal, released a ₹50 commemorative coin to mark the completion of 50 years of NHPC Limited today, on November 6, 2025, in New Delhi.
The occasion was graced by the presence of Shri Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary (Power), Ministry of Power, Government of India; Shri Bhupender Gupta, CMD, NHPC; and Shri Uttam Lal, Director (Personnel), NHPC. NHPC Limited, India’s premier hydropower Navratna company under the Ministry of Power, is celebrating a momentous milestone — the completion of 50 years of its establishment on November 7, 2025.
While congratulating NHPC Limited on this occasion, Shri Manohar Lal, Hon’ble Union Minister of Power, Housing and Urban Affairs, stated that the release of the commemorative coin by the Government of India is a recognition of NHPC’s enduring legacy and its strategic contribution to India’s energy self-reliance. This commemorative coin celebrates NHPC’s remarkable journey of resilience, innovation, and dedicated service to the nation.
The Hon’ble Union Minister of Power, Housing and Urban Affairs also unveiled a special publication — a comic book titled “Chhota Bheem aur Bada Bandh.” Inspired by the popular character Chhota Bheem and his companions, the book aims to convey the importance and benefits of hydropower to children and the general public through engaging storytelling and vibrant illustrations.
On this historic occasion, Shri Bhupender Gupta, CMD, NHPC, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Hon’ble Union Minister of Power, Housing and Urban Affairs for his invaluable guidance and support. He also extended sincere thanks to the Ministry of Power for their continuous cooperation and encouragement. Shri Gupta remarked that the Government of India’s release of a commemorative ₹50 coin to mark NHPC’s Golden Jubilee is a tribute to the organization’s illustrious journey and its pivotal role in achieving the nation’s energy self-reliance. This landmark initiative not only acknowledges NHPC’s outstanding accomplishments but also serves as a lasting source of inspiration for continued excellence in the years ahead.
Over the past five decades, NHPC has implemented landmark hydropower projects across some of the country’s most challenging terrains, while also expanding into solar, wind, and green hydrogen sectors — reinforcing its status as a 100% Green Energy Company. With an installed capacity exceeding 8,333 MW across 30 power stations and an additional 14 projects under construction with a combined capacity of over 9,704 MW, NHPC continues to play a vital role in strengthening India’s energy security and advancing the nation’s transition toward clean and sustainable power.
This marks the 29th commemorative coin release for the year 2025, minted by the India Government Mint, Hyderabad. The bookings are expected to open soon on the India Government Mint’s website and will be updated in the current and upcoming bookings section.
