The India Government Mint has set new rules by implementing a one order per person policy on its official e-commerce portal. This move has been widely welcomed by collectors, as most of the recent bookings were reportedly being blocked by dealers who created a black market by purchasing large quantities and reselling them at inflated prices.
By introducing this restriction, the Mint aims to ensure that every genuine collector gets an equal opportunity to own the newly issued commemorative coins.
It is now mandatory to furnish a PAN (Permanent Account Number) to buy coins on the India Government Mint’s online portal. On the earlier SPMCIL website, providing a PAN was compulsory, but after the platform was migrated to a new version a few years ago, this feature was not retained. The reintroduction of the PAN requirement is a positive step toward ensuring transparency and fairness in the ordering process. It will help the Mint verify the authenticity of buyers and prevent the misuse of multiple identities to place bulk orders.
The new policy clearly states that no person can order more than one of the same product. For instance, a buyer can order one Proof Coin in Folder package, one UNC Coin in Folder package, and one Proof in MDF package, but multiple orders of the same type will not be permitted. This limitation is intended to distribute the coins more equitably among collectors across the country, reducing the chances of hoarding and profiteering.
Although some well-known dealers with close ties to Mint officials may raise concerns about this change, they may need to check with the Mint regarding the possibility of a distribution model being reintroduced in the future. For now, the focus remains on giving genuine collectors fair access and protecting the spirit of numismatics. The one order per person rule, coupled with the reinstated PAN-based authentication, marks a significant step forward in restoring balance, fairness, and trust within the collecting community of Republic India coinage.
